7 Tips for Organizing Your Closet

Ó 2001, Pam Hughes

 1.  Seasonally, go through and weed out old, worn out, wrong size, never/seldom worn clothes. Dispose of or give away with no regrets. They cost you frustration, space and dollars to store and no longer wear.

 2.  Hang like clothes together: suits, dresses, tops, pants.
Organize by color within groups.

 3.  Use bins and baskets liberally.

 4.  Remove extra hangers and place in a group at the front of the closet.

 5.  Don’t re-hang dirty clothes. Place a laundry bin and a cleaner’s bin in a convenient nearby location.

 6.  Have a spot for items needing repair. If you don’t repair them promptly think about giving them away.

 7.  Organize shoes by function and then color. (If you stick with neutral colors you’ll have fewer shoes to buy!) Have a spot for each of them and make it a practice to return them to their spot.
