Quick Tips for Children’s Rooms © 2004, Pam Hughes Streamline Clothing & Toys· Make colors and styles easy to mix & match · Keep only what is currently in use · Store or pass on what doesn’t fit or is rarely worn · Pre-plan outfits for the entire week · Decide how many toys & books can comfortably be enjoyed · Rotate them out · Encourage children to donate to the less fortunate · Take them with you when you donate
Right-size the furniture and accessories· Install lower closet rods & shelves · Use high spaces for out-of-season, rarely used, or rotated items · Select furniture that is the right size and shape · Use vertical space on walls and incorporate lots of hooks
Containerize to keep in place· Put like things together · Use small containers for small items and large containers for large things · Make sure that the containers can be easily handled by children · Use rolling carts, stacking bins, clear plastic shoe & sweater boxes · Have children help you label · Use pictures for labeling when appropriate · Encourage a 3-toy rule to help control the clutter
