Did you know that May is “Good Car Keeping Month”? What better time to tackle something that could really make a difference for our summer schedules. And, it probably won’t take that long! Grab a trash bag and a couple of laundry baskets. We’ll first start by emptying the car and sorting and purging all the stuff we have inside it. Throw away all those empty soda cans and outdated papers. Divide up the stuff that really needs to be in the car and what belongs somewhere else in your house or office. When the car is empty, take time to clean and vacuum it out. Now think about the activity centers in your car. It’s time to assign homes and containerize things. Think about how and where you’ll use the items as you assign the homes. Make them close and convenient whenever possible. Here are some ideas…adapt them to your needs: · Vital car documents and emergency numbers – Glove compartment · Maps – Overhead visor or seat pocket · Emergency & first aid kits – Trunk or rear compartment · Child activity centers – Hanging bags over seats · Shopping bags – Trunk organizer · CD, tapes, & cell phone – Console or overhead visor · Paperwork & magazines – Tote bag or travel crate · Food & drink – Cup holders & coolers
Finally provide yourself with a trash container front and rear to help contain your refuse and empty it at least weekly! Take the stuff that belongs elsewhere in your house or office to its home or at least to the room you’re most likely to find it if it doesn’t have a home yet…We’ll get to that in time.
